Polish Word of the Day | Grzyby
Grzyby = Mushrooms
Pronounced: G-dj-i-b-i
We're coming close to the end of the wild mushroom picking season in Poland. People travel hours to their favorite (and often plentiful) mushroom picking spots and spend hours searching for them in the mossy woods. It takes a sharp eye to find them in the leaf-covered and wet forest bed. Mushrooms are then cleaned, dried and used in stews, soups and other dishes. Here, in the US, I've replaced them with dried Shiitake or Porcini mushrooms.
